Practice for Success
Welcome to conversations below the surface, the CBS podcast shorts. I am your host, Marcus Gentry, and we hope you enjoy this episode.
Marcus Gentry:There are many people who have goals in mind that they would like to accomplish. Maybe by the end of the year, definitely starting at the beginning of next year, before the holidays, but there's a lot of frustration that gets connected with people reaching or not reaching their goals, and many times they just don't know why that is, but there's one element well, there's many elements that could impact them, but there's one I'd like to share during this moment, and that's creating a practice. And many of the professionals talk about this being a critical element that's missing a lot.
Marcus Gentry:Not just having a goal that you intend to accomplish, but what practice do you have that you do every day that moves you towards your goal? So let's just say your goal has to do with finances. What practice do you have? Do you practice daily to improve your finances? Are you reading something to increase your financial literacy?
Marcus Gentry:Do you have a practice of saving or not spending? What practice do you have that you're involved in to move you closer towards your goal that you can say, well, I do this at least once a week to help me reach the final goal that I have? Maybe your goal has to do with relationships and you want to improve an important relationship that you have in your life. What practice are you involved in? Do you read any books on relationships?
Marcus Gentry:Have you consistently maybe watched YouTube clips or videos about how to build a healthy relationships? Have you had a conversation with older people or people who you feel are in successful relationships and you practice kind of spending time with them and talking to them about what they have found that works for them? It's true that whatever you do, they say we become like the people we spend our time around. Are you in a practice of being around the people who are doing what it is that you would like to accomplish? And it's great to work with people who are striving to accomplish the same thing, but it's even greater when you work with someone who has accomplished it, and they can look back and kinda tell you, well, you might wanna watch out for this.
Marcus Gentry:They can tell you what to look out for, what to avoid, or maybe what to lean in towards. Maybe the goal that you want to accomplish has to do with health, something having to do with your overall physical wellness. What practice do you have? Do you have a practice of anything that you do every day, every other day, that you do consistently that can move you towards your goal? So that's the primary message.
Marcus Gentry:If you can attach a practice to whatever goal that you have and then do it consistently, it's great if you can find something you can do every day even if it's small, but if you can do something every week at least or 2 or 3 times a week as a part of a practice towards reaching your goal, it might be one of the elements that might help you reach your goal successfully where many others fall off.
